More on the Brigade

Preface

The front cover of this Strategic Plan depicts The Fire and Rescue Service at work in the community during the severe floods of last November. The extreme conditions we experienced over a three week period brought out the best in our service in respect of team spirit and sheer professionalism. Myself and my fellow Combined Fire Authority Members are proud to be associated with such a fine public service.

This strategic Plan sets out our aims and primary objectives for the next five years. We will continue to forge effective partnerships in order to achieve our goals and I am certain that the communities of York and North Yorkshire will have just course to remain totally supportive of the Authority and the service as we strive to carry out our mission, to safeguard the community from fire and other emergencies.

G.K. Rennie – Chairman, Combined Fire Authority

Foreword

In this, the second edition of our Strategic Plan, I set out our revised objectives and key targets for the next 5 years.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has embarked upon an ambitious and forward thinking programme of performance management and continuous improvement which will place us amongst the best Fire Authorities in the country.

We have been acknowledged as a Service which sets great store in its employees, by the award of the Investors in People standard. I am committed to retaining this accolade and continuing to involve the workforce in the strategic decision- making process in the future.

Together we can take the service from success to success and continue to provide the communities we serve with a Fire and Rescue Service in which they can take great pride.

I hope you will take the time to read this plan and familiarise yourself with the strategic aims of the Fire Authority. It is to those Strategic aims which every member of the Authority and Service should be committed. Performance targets at all levels in the organisation will flow from our Strategic Plan and every member of the workforce will have an integral part to play in its successful achievement.

Smoke Alarms

The Fire Safety Section is responsible for the administration and provision of Fire Safety services within North Yorkshire and the City of York.  The "front line" services are provided by Officers at Harrogate, Scarborough and York together with operational firefighters at the wholetime locations.

School & Kids

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service has very strong links with the communities of North Yorkshire, which is reflected in our safety plans. Visits to schools and other groups is high on our priority list. We have tried to provide some excellent fire safety advice aimed at youngsters, with some fun and games along the way.
